Why do I get an error when I try to upload a new profile picture?

Problem

On the Settings page, when uploading a profile picture for the first time (or changing an existing one) you encounter an error with code 500 or a general Network Error.

Cause

The file in question is larger than the max dimensions allowable for the display picture OR it is the incorrect file type.

Solution

Ensure the file is one of the following types: .gif, .jpg/.jpeg, .png

You may also want to try resizing your photo. The maximum allowable dimensions are 2048px by 1536px.
